Text Box: Message from Chairman of the National Trails
Dulcimer Festival Committee

On behalf of the National Trails Dulcimer Festival Committee, it is with regret that the committee has decided to cancel the 2009 National Trails Dulcimer Festival. Due to unfortunate and unavoidable circumstances, the decision was made by the committee not to pursue a festival in 2009.

The Springfield Dulcimer Club, sponsor of the National Trails Dulcimer Festival, has set very high standards to organize and present the very best festival for dulcimer and music enthusiasts. Recognized as one of the finest dulcimer festivals in the Ohio, the National Trails Dulcimer Festival is attended by many participants not only from local clubs in Ohio, but from out of state as well. Rather than present a festival with less than the very best venue, exhibitors, performers and teachers, we felt it best to utilize the time to plan, organize and look toward scheduling our festival in 2010.

We welcome you to visit our club’s website at www.springfielddulcimerclub.org and keep updated on our next festival. Hope to see you in 2010!

Leonard Kadel, Chairman
National Trails Dulcimer Festival Committee

To call Butch and Christie old-time musicians would probably upset a lot of purists. They bring to the table a lively mix of diverse traditional influences from Irish to Swedish to folk and even Rock-n-Roll (albeit in unusual and subtle ways).

Still, Old-time fiddle tunes form the core of Butch and Christie's repertoire and they can be found performing and teaching their particular brand of music at concerts and festivals as far away as Belgium, Ireland, Germany and the UK. Now based in Kentucky, Butch and Christie enjoy teaching and performing at various dulcimer and acoustic music festivals all over the US as well as abroad. When they're not traveling, they run a weekly old time music session in Bowling Green, KY. Their debut CD, "Here to Play" was produced by Dan Landrum in Chattanooga, TN, and was released in January 2006. Christie & Butch also have a website on MYSPACE MUSIC. Check out their music & video!

Gary became interested in the Mountain Dulcimer in 1991 after seeing David Schnaufer's "Fischer's Hornpipe" video on CMT. He built a dulcimer in late 1991, then began building seriously in 1992 and has been building and playing since that time. Gary, along with wife Toni are the owners of "Prussia Valley Dulcimers Acoustic Music Shop". They reside in Waverly, Ohio. Gary has taught playing workshops at Fort New Salem Dulcimer Festival, Dulcimer Doin's in Dayton, Ohio, Buckeye Dulcimer Festival in Ashley, Ohio, The Great River Road Dulcimer Festival in Grafton, IL, Yellowbanks Dulcimer Festival in Owensboro, KY, Chestnut Ridge Dulcimer Festival in Greensburg, PA and several other local festivals. Gary and Toni have done occasional performances at some of these festivals.
